Devdas Bhattachariya BPM, Addl IGP and the chief of Bangladesh Railway Police took over the current charge on 13th March 2024.

 

Devdas Bhattachariya was born in 1968 and his family hails from Moulovibazar district of Sylhet division. He is an alumnus of Chittagong University from the department of chemistry.

His journey with Bangladesh Police started in 1995 through 15th BCS. Since then he has commanded various important units in the field administration of Bangladesh police. After finishing his training from Bangladesh Police Academy, he joined Kurigram district as ASP. He was promoted to the rank of SP in the year 2006. As Superintendent of Police, he commanded four districts -Barishal, Dinajpur, Madaripur and Bandarban.

He served as Additional Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police from 2015 to 2017. In 2017 he achieved promotion as Deputy Inspector General. Later he served as DIG Rangpur and Mymensingh Range.

He served in UN peacekeeping mission in the year 2009 in Darfur, Sudan. He was awarded with prestigious Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) in 2019 for his extraordinary service to the people and significant contributions to Bangladesh Police.

 

Devdas Bhattachariya is a distinguished novelist with four notable novels to his credit.

He is happily married to Madhuchhanda Bhattacharya who is a home maker. They are blessed with four children.
